About the Entertainers

Eve Selis and the band are San Diego favorites and rising quickly on the international stage with the release of "Angels and Eagles." Selis delivers the group's blend of country twang, gospel fervor and rock 'n' roll punch with equal parts sanctification and sweat. Her bottomless lung power is matched by an emotional gusto that could blast your happy-hour oysters out of their shells. Karla Peterson, San Diego Union Tribune

The Silverwoods. Black Wave, A Family's Adventure at Sea and the Disaster That Saved Them, follows the Silverwood Family on an exhilarating true-life adventure of one family's extraordinary sea voyage of self-discovery and survival, tragedy and triumph. John and Jean had hoped to use the trip as a teaching opportunity, with the Emerald Jane as a floating classroom in which to instruct their children in important lessons not only about the natural world but about the beauty of human life when stripped down to its essence, far from the trappings of civilization.?

Sandra Guilland. International and NY Times bestselling author Sandra Gulland, will discuss and sign Mistress of the Sun. Sandra is the author of the internationally acclaimed Josephine Bonaparte trilogy. She returns with another irresistible historical novel, this one based on the life of extraordinary horsewoman Louise de la Valliere, who becomes one of the most mysterious consorts of France's King Louis XIV.

Mar Dels. The La Jolla Festival of the Arts can never be called sleepy or stody, especially when we have San Diego's favorite party band, The Mar Dels, performing. We'll be Stompin at the Savoy and Crying 96 Tears while getting Respect. If we had a liquor license, you'd be sure that margaritas would be flowing!

Cooking. How's this to make you hungry: America's Top Chef finalist, Brian Malarky, of the Gaslamp's Oceanaire Seafood Room; Sam "The Cooking Guy" Zien; and Isabel Cruz, Owner of 5 West coast restaurants, including La Jolla's The Coffee Cup and PB's Isabel's Cantina. They'll be here sharing recipes, tips, and ideas.

Mystery & Crime. The Festival and Warwick's is pleased to welcome an all-thriller mystery and crime panel of authors: Joseph Wambaugh, Don Winslow, and April Smith.

Joseph Wambaugh (Hollywood Crows). When LAPD cops Hollywood Nate and Bix Rumstead find themselves caught up with bombshell Margot Aziz, they think they're just having some fun. But in Hollywood, nothing is ever what it seems. In HOLLYWOOD CROWS, Wambaugh returns once again to the beat he knows best, taking readers on a tightly plotted and darkly funny ride-along through Los Angeles with a cast of flawed cops and eccentric lowlifes they won't soon forget.

Don Winslow (Dawn Patrol). The author of "The Winter of Frankie Machine" ("another instant classic"--Lee Child) is back with a razor-sharp novel as cool and unbridled as its California surfer heroes, as heart-stopping as a wave none of them sees coming. Boone Daniels lives to surf. But Boone is also obsessed with the unsolved case of a young girl named Rain who was abducted back when he was on the San Diego police force. He blames himself--just as almost everyone in the department does--for not being able to save her. Now, when he can't say no to a gorgeous, bossy lawyer who wants his help investigating an insurance scam, he's unexpectedly staring at a chance to make some amends--and take some revenge--for Rain's disappearance. It might mean missing the most colossal waves he's liable to encounter (not to mention putting The Dawn Patrol in serious harm's way as he tangles with the local thuggery), but this investigation is about to give him a wilder ride than any he's ever imagined.

April Smith (Judas Horse). Maverick FBI Special Agent Ana Grey goes undercover to infiltrate the volatile core of a domestic terrorist cell, where she must negotiate a minefield of loyalty and betrayal under constant threat of discovery.
